Martha falls on Pigeon Roost Creek is accessed on an enjoyable trail through a rhododendron, hemlock and hardwood forest almost to the falls (approximately 1.5 miles) but the final approach is difficult to get a good view of the falls. The first mile of the trail has been relocated in the past several years and now begins as the Dockery Lake trail around the left side of the lake. At the dam follow the left fork of the trail and descend into the Waters Creek Valley with good mountain and valley views. After passing the turnoff to Waters Creek on the right and several small tributaries the trail begins to ascend along the left side of Pigeon Creek into the Blood Mountain Wilderness Area on an old road-bed bounded by moss-covered rocks. The trail soon veers away from pigeon creek. Soon after the trail crosses a small tributary one needs to leave the trail and walk through the woods to again be alongside Pigeon Creek . The falls which is 30-40 feet high may be difficult to see initially because of the thick growth but during periods of high water can be easily heard making it easier to find.
 
The trail continues about 1.7 miles to the Appalachian trail near Miller Gap. A nice 6 mile loop hike can be made by parking one car at Woody Gap and beginning the hike at the Dockery Lake parking area. (During winter months the gate for the access road may be closed adding a 1.5 miles descent to the hike). After reaching the Appalachian Trail go 2.6 miles south to Woody Gap over Big Cedar Mountain. The view at Preaching Rock on Big Cedar Mountain is spectacular.  Dockery Lake shown below offers nice views as well.
