Amicalola Falls
Dawson County

Amicalola Falls is located in Amicalola State Park on Hwy GA52 near Dawsonville, Elijay and Dahlonega. This beautiful waterfall cascades 600 feet to a reflecting pool at the bottom. A walkway which goes from the bottom to the top of the falls was completed late in 2001. A paved walkway begins near the reflecting pool at the bottom of the falls. The walkway passes along a series of cascades and about one third of the way up becomes a combination of viewing platforms and steps to the top affording spectacular views of this outstanding attraction. Parking is available at the bottom, at the top and near the middle of the falls so it is possible to start the walk from either the middle, top or bottom.

Shortly after entering Amicalola State Park one reaches the Visitors Center with its interesting interpretive wildlife museum and gift shop. The 57-room park lodge is beyond the top of the falls and has a restaurant, overnight accommodations, conference rooms and a gift shop. The park also has 2-3 bedroom cabins, campsites and the outstanding remote Len Foote Hike-Inn lodge with sleeping and dining facilities and a game-library room for relaxing.

The 8-mile approach trail to the southern terminus of the Appalachian Scenic Trail on Springer Mountain begins at the Visitors Center.

A parking area more than half way up the falls is an easy walk to this bridge which provides a closeup view of the most spectacular portion of the falls.

From the bridge 425 steps take you to the top of the falls.

The view from a deck at the top of the falls gives a different perspective of this natural wonder.

The falls framed in fall colors is shown during a period of low rainfall.

The reflecting pool at the bottom of the falls trail is stocked with rainbow trout and is shown with floating leaves and reflecting fall colors.

The trail up to the falls begins at the reflecting pool and follows numorous cascades which get larger as the walkway and steps near the top.
